Collett Everman Woolman papers, 1916-1979.

Papers reflect the development of crop dusting, Delta Air Lines, and Woolman's role in aviation history. Included are business records, correspondence, certificates, newspaper clippings, and photographs of Woolman and other aviators. Manuscript volumes consist of field diaries (1916-1919) kept by Woolman while he worked for the U.S. Department of Agriculture, a memorandum book, and a scrapbook (1926-1961). Printed items include ephemera, brochures, programs, schedules, and other items related to Delta Air Lines and aviation. Printed volumes include issues of airline "in-flight" magazines, and issues of BUSINESS WEEK (1961) and GEORGIA TECH ALUMNUS (1966).

Delta Airlines began in Macon, Georgia in 1924 as a crop dusting company called Huff Daland Dusters. The company moved to Monroe, Louisiana in 1925 and soon had the largest privately owned aircraft fleet in the world. In 1928 the company was renamed Delta Air Service. Passenger operations began in 1929, and in 1934, the company secured a contract to deliver mail on a southern route that stretched from Texas to South Carolina. Collett Everman Woolman was the founder and chief executive officer of Delta Air Lines. Born in Indiana and reared in Illinois, he graduated from Louisiana State University and became the first college trained County Agricultural Agent in Louisiana.
